Zsolt Semjén, Deputy Prime Minister of Hungary, President of KDNP (Christian Democratic People’s Party) and Katalin Novák, Minister in charge of families attended the 15th Congress of RMDSZ (Democratic Alliance of Hungarians in Romania/UDMR) in Marosszentgyörgy (Sangeorgiu de Mures).

In the presence of Florin Citu, Prime Minister of Romania, several Romanian party leaders and RMDSZ/UDMR representatives, the Hungarian Deputy Prime Minister in charge of nation policy declared: it is in the interest of both Hungary and Romania to sustain the best possible relations with each other. Hungary has the same concern with regard to Ukraine as Romania does: their laws afflict the Hungarian national minority in the same way as they do the Romanian minority. Meanwhile, Hungary could achieve reconciliation with other countries. In Serbia, the Hungarian national minority’s cultural autonomy has been realized, Hungary and Serbia have completed a full historical reconciliation. If we could do that with the Serbs why couldn’t we do the same with our Romanian friends, too? – said the deputy prime minister.

Zsolt Semjén added: the KDNP has always been supporting the RMDSZ/UDMR because should RMDSZ/UDMR crumble, its place would be taken over by not another Hungarian party but by nobody. Sooner or later, Hungarian politicians and mayors would be getting entangled in the Romanian party politics. „Therefore everything making RMDSZ/UDMR weaker is unacceptable.” The RMDSZ/UDMR is responsible not only for the Hungarian community in Transylvania but has a bearing on other segments of the nation beyond the borders since what is happening in Transylvania serves as a model and reference point for others. Hungarians in Transylvania have never asked for anything which would not be generally accepted in the European Union. What others can have we can have too, what is allowed to others should also be allowed to us, what others are due we are due as well. Everyone who wanted to become a Hungarian citizen could do so.

Katalin Novák, Vice President of FIDESZ, Minister without portfolio for Family Affairs read out Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s letter addressing the Congress in which the Prime Minister emphasized that „in the fight for our language, Christian culture and national identity we Hungarians could always rely on ourselves only - both in Bucharest and Brussels. That should encourage us next spring to jointly protect the achievements of Hungary’s nation policy we have been fighting for since 2010.”

At the Congress of RMDSZ/UDMR organized under the motto „Together for the family!”, Katalin Novák related that with the Hungarian family policy our objective is that living as Hungarians, raising Hungarian children in security, peace and love be something very good. This makes certain that finally we Hungarians win the future not against others but together with others.
