On September 6, 2023, the President of the Republic Katalin Novák attended the Three Seas Initiative (3SI) Summit in Bucharest, where she stated that economic cooperation in the region is important even in the shadow of the war in Ukraine, and she welcomed the joint declaration of then Summit and its wording regarding Ukraine. He recalled that he visited Kyiv twice in the previous 12 months and emphasized that Hungary stands by the territorial integrity of Ukraine, condemns Russian aggression and considers the achievement of peace as the most important goal. President Katalin Novák pointed out that 3SI was created in order to promote economic relations and efficient connections within the wider region. The head of state welcomed Greece's accession to 3SI, but considered it equally important to embrace the Western Balkan countries through the initiative, and announced that Hungary will host the 3SI summit and business forum in 2025. In her speech, the President also drew attention to the importance of population growth necessary for competitiveness, and then reminded the participants of the Summit that a demographic summit will be held in Budapest on September 14-15. Before the 3SI Summit, President Katalin Novák had a face-to-face meeting with Kelemen Hunor, the president of the RMDSZ (UDMR), during which they exchanged views on issues related to Romanian-Hungarian intergovernmental relations and the Hungarian community in Romania, as well as current political topics. "The protection of the interests of the Hungarian people is the first in Bucharest too," commented President Katalin Novák on her social media page, and declared: "Whether in government or not, the alliance with the leaders of the Hungarian communities living across the border is eternal.”
